I bought a Bruning electric eraser. It’s probably as old as I am, maybe older.
It was having a problem starting, because the old ass bearings were full of old ass grease that had thickened up or something. Whatever the cause, they weren’t turning freely until they got cleaned.
I have MAD respect for whoever put these together in the factory. It was very fiddly to take apart to get to everything. The power switch in particular is very tricky. It consists of a circuit board and 2 little brass plates connected by a tiny spring. It came out in one piece and then turned into 4 pieces. I think I spent a good 90 minutes figuring out a) how it fit together and b) how to actually reassemble it.
Anyway, it works like a champ now!

Didn’t know this was a thing.

I have a newer, cheaper, plastickier version of that. I call it my artist’s vibrator

Made me laugh! I’ve spent countless hours rebuilding the same phenomena.

I considered buying a newer cheaper version but then hit eBay and found one of the ones I remember my dad having.
Of course, the refill erasers are long gone, but I think I can use Staedler refills intended for the little click-to-extend erasers
